Aging in Elegance

This full house renovation was aimed specifically at allowing the client to age in place with elegance and grace. The project involved creating a guest suite in upper level dormer, opening doorways, reconfiguring the space to accommodate an open living plan, and creating a walk-in shower next to the primary first-floor bedroom for safe and easy use, with pre-planning for future grab bars in the bathroom and shower. The design style is created to reflect the Mediterranean heritage of the client. An energetic and spunky widow in her mid-seventies, she loves hosting family and friends for dinner parties. An open concept plan between the prep space in the kitchen, the dining area, and the living room were of prime importance. (Project update: 8 years later, it was time to incorporate the grab bars into the design, and thanks to advanced planning, they blended seamlessly and were able to be installed in preferred location for our 4'6" client. Word on the street has it that now that the primary danger of COVID has passed - she is happy to back to hosting her dinner parties!)
